The history of Devanci BV
Devanci BV is a family business founded by Johan and Greetje Sipsma in 1991 under the name vof Sipsma-Zwiep. From there, the company has grown into an inland shipping company with three ships. In 2010, the company changed its name to V.O.F. Devanci and in 2023 it underwent a legal change and will continue as Devanci BV.

The three ships owned by Devanci BV each have their own name. Each of us came up with a name for our own ship. The ship names all have a matching meaning.

The company name Devanci is derived from a combination of three ship names. Before we purchased the ship Andamento, the company owned another ship called Avance, which translates from French as ‘advance’ or ‘head start’. Devanci is a combination of the ship names Desafio-Avance-Avanti, which translates from Esperanto as ‘overtake’.
In 2018, a ship was purchased in collaboration with an external company. This ship was named Devanto and was part of Devanto BV. The company name Devanto is a combination of the ship names: Desafio-Avanti-Andamento. Devanto translates from French as ‘to run ahead/take the lead’. In 2023, the ship was sold and business activities are currently on hold.
Since 2020, we have been working together with shipping company Proscrito Holding BV in Andesto B.V. The company name Andesto is a combination of the ship names Andamento-Desafio and Vadesto and has no translation.
